How to find us, plus other information

Getting here

St. John has no air strip, so the only way in is by boat. Most visitors fly to nearby St. Thomas airport and take a passenger ferry to St. John Or you can rent a car on St. Thomas and take a car barge. St. John also has an extensive service of open-air taxis, so many guests choose to go without renting a Jeep or car.

The Inn is right in town, easy walking distance from the ferry dock, Beach Safari Taxi Stand, and shops, bars and restaurants.

Ferry boat information

PASSENGER FERRY: There are three passenger ferries from St. Thomas – Red Hook, Crown Bay or Charlotte Amalie. The Crown Bay and Charlotte Amalie ferries run only 2-3 times per day, so we recommend taking the Red Hook ferry which leaves regularly from the east end of St. Thomas. Both passenger and car ferries depart from Red Hook.

Shuttles leave to all ferry terminals directly outside the airport baggage claim area.

CAR BARGE: Car barge times can vary, so it’s important to coordinate with flight schedules.  If arriving guests rent a car on St. Thomas and don’t make the day’s final car barge to St. John (usually 7:00 pm), they must leave their rental car in the paid parking lot on St. Thomas, take the passenger ferry to St. John that evening, and return to St. Thomas the following day to get the car.  Big hassle, so if you’re arriving late, it’s much simpler to rent vehicles on St. John.

Finding the Tamarind

As you can see from this walking map, the Inn is not far from the Cruz Bay ferry dock, which is where the passenger ferries land. It’s an easy walk, about 5 minutes through town. (The car ferry terminal is also close by, shown near the bottom of the map.)

If you have a lot of luggage, have had a long day traveling or are not yet used to the island heat, you can also choose to take a taxi. They will be waiting at the end of the ferry dock as you get off the boat. Ask them to take you to the Inn at Tamarind Court.

If you choose to walk: Exit the dock and head straight up the one-way narrow street. Pass Tap & Still on the right and Woody’s on the left, then pass a school on your right. At the roundabout, continue straight towards Rte. 104 East (also marked as Southside Road). We are about 50 yards along from the roundabout, located on the left directly across from St. Ursula Church.

Checking in

The Inn has self-serve Check-In anytime after 3pm.

When you enter the Inn’s courtyard, look to the right to find the Office, shown in the photo. The bulletin board next to the office door has check-in information.

If you have any issues, there is Emergency Contact information posted on the bulletin board and in your room Information Book.

The Inn has free parking located under the Tamarind Tree behind the building, pending availability.

Should you need to cancel

The Inn offers free cancellations with 30 days or more notice. A 50% deposit is required to confirm all reservations & the balance will be charged upon arrival.

*Full non-refundable payment is charged if the reservation is made within the week of arrival.

If a guest cancels with less than 30 days remaining, the 50% deposit portion is nonrefundable.  If the Inn is given less than 7 days notice or there’s a no-show, the guest will be charged the full amount of the stay and the reservation will be cancelled.

Due to how many reservations on this island are made months in advance, many accommodations here don’t allow any cancellations (because it’s so difficult to rebook the room on shorter notice). The Inn has adopted this in-between policy to give guests some flexibility.

The Inn at Tamarind Court accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover & Travelers Checks.
